Navigating and embarking on a cruise is exciting and filled with new experiences. Before you set sail, let’s explore some key cruise terms to help you navigate the ship and have a stress-free journey.

1. Muster Drill: A must for safety, the muster drill is a mandatory procedure at the start of your cruise.

2. Muster Station: Your designated gathering spot during emergencies. Find it easily with clear signage onboard.

3. Aft: The back of the ship, beautiful views of the ocean as you cruise.

4. Bow: The ship’s front.

5. Starboard: The ship’s right-hand side when facing forward.

6. Port: The ship’s left side.

7. MDR (Main Dining Room): The MDR is the primary restaurant on the cruise ship where passengers enjoy their meals included in the cruise fare.

8. Embark: Embarkation refers to the process of boarding the cruise ship at the beginning of the voyage. Passengers check-in, undergo security screenings, and receive their room keys before stepping onto the ship.

9. Disembark: Disembarkation occurs at the end of the cruise when passengers leave the ship to return home or continue their travels. It involves clearing customs, settling onboard accounts, and departing the ship in an orderly manner.

10. Atrium: The atrium is the central hub of the cruise ship, typically located in the middle of the vessel. It’s a multi-level space adorned with grand architecture, shops, lounges, and often hosts live entertainment and social gatherings.
